Polyamory, according to Wikipedia, is the desire, practice, or acceptance of having more than one loving, intimate relationship at a time with the full knowledge and consent of everyone involved.

***Do not confuse these folks with Polygamy (lots of wives) or for lack of a better term, “Group Sex Folk.”

Valentine and Cat greeted me at the door.

Valentine has a scruffy beard and a ponytail.  Cat is a young blond from Cary, North Carolina.

They are boyfriend and girlfriend.

Valentine described it, “Yeah, Cat is my girlfriend, and my wife is in the back.”

His wife is April and it is she whom offered me a place to stay through the website, www.couchsurfing.com.

“She is probably feeding the baby,” they say.

April is breastfeeding her young daughter, Ember, while talking to Corbie.

Ember. April and Valentine's Daughter.

Ember. April and Valentine's Daughter.

Ember is April and Valentine’s daughter.  She is beautiful.  Huge eyes and a gummy grin.  She is a few months old.

April is a full time Mom now, after 10 years in the military; 8 months of which she was deployed in Iraq.

She is smart.

Valentine is a philospher/mystic/psychologist.  He is in the process of developing his own psychological theory, “Sacred Psychology.”  It draws from some ancient, spiritual mythologies and blends it with current ways of measuring personality types.

It highlights, “the miracle of personhood,” Valentine said.

Corbie and April are seeing each other.  Corbie is a computer guy, specifically Mac’s.

Corbie was visiting to teach April some permaculture gardening techniques.  They were planting plants all around their backyard depending on the amount of sunlight or shade.  (I am not that familiar with permaculture, but according to some good friends, we will all be familiar with this term soon)

Cat is a nanny that aspires to be a massage therapist.

“We all met at a SCA event,” they were telling me later.

SCA is the Society for Creative Anachronism.  This is a nationwide organization which meets up in rural areas to stage medieval battles and festivals, where each participant is a character, that they create and develop.

Cat was telling me that the Pennsic War Festival is “the Woodstock” of SCA events.  People travel from all over the world for the two week event, where the East and Middle Kingdoms battle it out.

Zach and “Goose” are roommates with April and Valentine, too.

Zach is a musician, who plays political, September 11th-style rock and roll.  He just hit the “big time” and is moving to South Carolina to play with a friend at Wild Wing Cafes.  His son, “Goose” ( that is his nickname ) is 2 years old and goes everywhere with Zach.

It is a full house!!!

The next day, as I said goodbye, April gave me a Camelbak, a utility knife, a thin fleece blanket to put in my sleeping bag, and some peanut butter.

I set up a tentative “date” to come back for dinner and make a short Public Service Announcement with them about Polyamory.  They can give you the info, much better than I, so stay tuned.

Tonight, I am meeting up with an old friend, Sarah, for a cookout and some live music.

Keep an eye on my wordpress site for the facebook fans, I have added TWITTER to my site and have been regularly updating with TWEET’s throughout the day.

If you want to follow on Twitter, my username is “createourworld” (imagine that).

Thank you so much to April, Valentine, Cat, and Zach for their hospitality and openness.

Keep rockin’ everyone!!!

Create Our World,

ben.
