I may be coning it up here.

Becoming a Clayist.

I made my first pot using a potter’s wheel while staying in Greenville, North Carolina with Julianne.

Go easy with that wheel!

Here are my tips for Potting:

1.  Use enough water!

2.  Get that pot right in the center.  You should not feel a wobble while the wheel spins.

3.  Don’t let the clay push you around!  Own that Dirt!

4.  Get in close with your body while making your piece.

5.  Know when to stop.

6.  Most important, get a Good Teacher!

For more info, I would recommend you look up a source on the internet from someone whom has thrown more than one pot.

Have the Strength to be Vulnerable. A quote from Julianne's home.

”Plant a seed of friendship; reap a bouquet of happiness.” – Lois L. Kaufman

Greenville, North Carolina.

A post of photographs taken in Greenville.  I really only took pictures of friends and not much of the town.

Julianne: Make ‘Someday’ Today.

Julianne is a Clayist & was my host in Greenville, NC.

“I haven’t found an eraser for life; so I just have to roll with the misplaced, poorly thought out lines I’ve drawn, and make a new picture somehow.” – Julianne

Meet Julianne.

I met Julianne through Couchsurfing.  She lives in Greenville, North Carolina and I stayed with her most of my time there.

"Make 'Someday' Today" a quote tacked up in Julianne's house.

 The World’s First Clayist.

Julianne would call herself a Potter.  I would call her a Clayist.  A CLAY ART-EEST!  Potter just doesn’t seem to capture the  full power of her work (check out her website). Julianne scratches photographs and words into her work.  It has a dramatic effect.

An example of Julianne's work.

Julianne is also an Art Director.  Her best friend is MacKenzie, a lovable chocolate lab.  She loves to bike & digs Pad Thai.

Julianne holds an autographed print of the cover of The Avett Bros. new album, "I and Love and You." (That is Julianne!)

 The Avett Bros.

Julianne loves the Avett Brothers.  A folk-rock band, whom Julianne has known since college.  They just hit the big-time, if by big-time you mean, have their CD in Starbucks, according to a friend of mine.  Julianne is on the cover.  Well, a much older looking version of Julianne.  She has modeled for Scott Avett for years.  Scott is the lead singer and an avid painter.

Stay tuned tomorrow to see my clay creation with Julianne’s tutelage.
