Nick & I go to King’s Dominion.

My truck stop, where Nick drops me off in Virginia.
“Complex problems have simple, easy to understand, wrong answers.” – Henry Louis Mencken
My Sister drops me off near Washington DC, on her way to work. I am off for the south!
I have two objectives:
1. Get to warmer weather.
2. Get a new driver’s license. (see story here)

Looking for a Bus.
Washington DC.
My plan in DC is to get out of DC. I take the Metro as far south as I can to Franconia-Springfield and then take a bus down to Lorton, Virginia. This is where I make my stand on the huge highway of 95, which heads all the way to Miami, Florida. I stick out my thumb and hope.
Meet Nick.
A youngster pulls up with froofy hair. By froofy, I mean, his hair looks like mine. Nick has on a v-neck sweater and black Oakley sunglasses. He is just leaving a job interview and heading home, near King’s Dominion. King’s Dominion is an amusement park near Richmond, Virgina. I have never been.
Nick recently got his master’s degree, but doesn’t want to get caught up in the “rat race.” “Most people get a job and start saving money to have kids, cars, and…” Nick thinks there must be another way.
Nick is knowledgeable about our nation’s current health care reform. I ask for his opinions. Nick explains a lot. I follow most. As we pull up to the truck stop, where he will be depositing me. “There are two things my professor would want me to pass along…” Unfortunately I forgot one, but I remember one, so I am going to rock this.

Moral Hazard.
The term Nick used was Moral Hazard. Wikipedia states that Moral Hazard is when “a party insulated from risk may behave differently from the way it would behave if it would be fully exposed to the risk.” Nick’s example was how a mother would handle her small child getting a cough. If the doctor visit is very cheap, she will take her child to the doctor, which could eat up the time of the doc from seeing someone with a more serious illness. However, if the mother had to pay much for the visit, she may instead chose to research on her own or try another method.
Basically, his point was that our health insurance system is not very efficient. A lot of money is spent and made, when there may be simpler solutions.
A Complicated Issue.
We both agree the issue is very complicated and it is tough to get trust-worthy information.
If your knowledge on our nation’s Health Care Reform is extensive, please share.
