From Portland, Maine to Covington, Louisiana.
This was a long month!
I hitchhiked approximately 2080 miles this month. From the autumn leaves of Portland, Maine to the Dense heat of Covington, Louisiana. Here is a brief summary of the past month, click the links to read more.
In early October, I spent a week with Jessie & Leah in Portland, Maine. We ate lobster, saw photographs of women in prison, got a rabbit, and dove in dumpsters, among other things. I left them to head north, up the Maine coast. Lisa and I meet up on the road and travel together for the day. We eat seafood and talk about being homeless in Rockland. Andrew Wyeth’s art exhibit WOW’s me. After few days, the cold descends. To the South, I go! I head toward Boston in fancy cars and meet up with my good friend, Chris. We ramble thru Boston and reminisce. We watch the Honk street music festival and celebrate my 29th B-day. After losing my wallet, I miss a ride out of town with Casey, a young lady whom just finished biking across the USA. But after walking and meeting up with some officers of the law, Megan rolls in from Connecticut to save me. We head to New Haven where she lives and we eat sushi. The next day Megan and I head to Scranton, Pennsylvania so I can meet up with Axel, Mandi, Melissa, and Jessica. Megan beats me in poker and heads back, as I listen to bluegrass by The Cabinet with my Scranton friends. It Snows! I head out the next day and Josh picks me up as he heads to Baltimore. The Greatest City in America! (according to the bus benches) I meet up with my good friend, Paul, and my sister gets me a surprise as I head south again. Thru Virginia with rides from Nick, Susie, and Ruben, I make it too Greenville, North Carolina. In Greenville, I meet a nice Clayist, Julianne. We ride bikes, make mugs, and eat thai food. Life is hunky dory! Brad and I spend my last night in Greenville talking to some Tattoo Artists, who like poker. But alas, Halloween approaches!!!! I am feeling the pull to New Orleans. The Big Easy! It is 957 miles from Greenville and I have about 3 days to cover the distance. It is tough, but I make it!!!
My Favorite Articles (in no particular order):
A post about my couchsurfing host and friend from Portland, Maine. Jessie has worked closely with a Maine organization looking to unite the workers of Maine and El Salvador.
A post that details my two days with Megan. We traveled from Massachusetts to Scranton, Pennsylvania together.
3. Julianne: Make ‘Someday’ Today
Julianne is my host in Greenville, North Carolina. She is a potter and a good one at that.
4. My First Hitchhiking Partner: Lisa
Lisa has been on a faith walk for two years. I run into her on the road in Maine & we hitchhike together for the day.
In Boston, there is a Street Activist Music Festival named Honk, which my friend, Chris and I attended.
THIS COMING NOVEMBER:
This next week, I am going to be posting all the stories from the 13 rides that took me from North Carolina to Louisiana. Not sure what the coming month will hold. I am feeling pulled towards California, want to go through Austin, Texas, and I want to spend some time alone in Nature. BUT, that could change at any minute!
What are you up to?
Please let me know what you have been up to the past month. I want to keep in touch with everyone as I go along, so take a minute and shoot me a line.
