Street Photography in Austin: Capturing the Moment.

The little moments, people, places, and things, we usually rush by. This is street photography.
“In photography, the smallest thing can be a great subject. The little, human detail can become a Leitmotiv.” Henri Cartier-Bresson, one of the finest street photographers (side note Leitmotiv is a recurrant melody, phrase, or theme)
Street Photography.
Like the name alludes to, it is photography in the street. Mostly candid shots of people, places, and things. Moments in time and our lives that we mostly miss because we are headed “somewhere.” To work, to meet a friend, to eat, or home, somewhere other than here. Street photography is a favorite past time of mine. As I travel, in an attempt to capture clues to the culture of a place in a few brief moments on my digital sensor. It helps me stay in the moment and look for beauty at all times. To see split seconds of amazing beauty, where a number of different variables all come together at once. All by chance.
Street Photography is easier with my Nikon d70. She is a digital SLR. My baby. We have been together awhile. But she is currently a little ill after, my bike accident so I have been having to expand my skills and use my iPhone. I was inspired by Sion Fullana, whom I found on Flickr. Post on Sion’s work tommorrow or check for yourself now.
Here are my favorite street shots taken around Austin with my iPhone (minor edits done with iPhoto):

Walking in the Fog.

AAAHHHH!!!!!

Man painting his restaurant door. I can tell this is his place, although he doesn't tell me. We don't speak at all actually.

"Where Dreams Come True." Dr. Gonzalo is a war hero and an education advocate.
If you like the shots, check my Flickr Photostream. This is my house for all my photographs. Also, give “looking” as you walk a try. You don’t even need a camera.
Let me know what you see!

“To photograph is to hold one’s breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It’s at that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy.” Henri Cartier-Bresson
