“If you don’t run your own life, somebody else will.” – John Atkinson

It is the Eve of Christmas Eve.  Instead of moving west, I decide to walk a couple miles into Junction, partially because of my run-in with Derrick.  This post is about Derrick and Junction with a lot of photographs.

Meet Derrick.

Normally, I will camp far away from people in wooded areas.  Last night, I did something unusual and camped at Ralph Ingram Sr. Memorial Tennis Center.  It was a little out of town and deserted for the winter time.  The awning drew me in.  I would not have to set up my tent.  So I camped next to the front of the center  under the awning.

As I was reading before bed, a truck pulls up in the parking lot and shines it’s lights right on me.  Voices.  They say something about a 12 pack.  I continue to read, but am alert and consider walking up to them.  BUT, I don’t have any pants on.  A few minutes pass.

Eventually I pull my pants on to approach the truck, at the same time as a man strolls up to me.  Howdy!  A tall college kid with a big belt buckle and boots.  Derrick.  He apologizes.  He goes to Texas A & M University and is home for the holidays.  Derrick studies Agricultural Management.  He wants to move back when he is done with school.  Derrick assures me there are good people here.  Good People.

Junction, Texas.

It looks like a foreign country to me.  Lots of businesses have signs welcoming hunters and fisherman.  I stick out like an ugly thumb. I photograph.  I photograph a lot. I use Wi-Fi at the library.  I decide to walk around and find a good spot to eat my ham sandwich for lunch.  This is when I run into Lisa. Hear Lisa’s story tommorrow, but today check the photographs of Junction.

Tommorrow, I hang with Lisa, eat my first hamburger steak, and get the proverbial “boot” from Junction.

Create Our World.
