Heading to the OC: Meet Rich.
“How can you squander even one more day not taking advantage of the greatest shifts of our generation? How dare you settle for less when the world has made it so easy for you to be remarkable?” – Seth Godin
On Thursday (a couple days ago) I am attending a speech by famed writer, marketer, and spunky, change-agent, Seth Godin. He is speaking in Orange County. It is Tuesday, but I want to head there early to get a lay of the land.
Meet Rich.
My friend, Dave drops me off at the highway. I sleep in the woods nearby and the next morning hit the road early. Before 7 am, Rich pulls over. He is headed to Irvine, which is deep in the heart of Orange County. I am headed to Dana Point.
Rich is a retired Marine of 6 years. He is now a head honcho at Waste Management. Rich is happy with his life. He has an office that is one whole floor of his building. Rich gets to work early and leaves early. “If they need me, I only live 5 minutes away.”
We drive through Camp Pendleton, one of the most active bases in the USA. It borders the ocean with green, rolling hills to the east.
Rich takes me into Dana Point and drops me off at Denny’s. Denny’s has free Grand Slam breakfasts this morning!
Create Our World.

“My new favorite word is ‘awkward.’…The reason we need to be in search of awkward is that awkward is the barrier between us and excellence, between where we are and the remarkable. If it were easy, everyone would have done it already, and it wouldn’t be worth the effort.” – Seth Godin
