I have a story for you... it's the small things that make a difference when I'm traveling. On my way from Trinidad to Tampa, I had a 12-hour layover in Puerto Rico. I had little money and lots of time, so I decided to figure out the public bus system to get me downtown. Of course, everything was in Spanish, and I knew little. A local woman somehow figured out I was clueless, and though she didn't speak English, she made sure I got on the right bus, and told someone else where I was trying to get so they could keep an eye on me as well.
