“I lived in solitude in the country and noticed how the monotony of a quiet life stimulates the creative mind.” – Albert Einstein

In this post, I will explain my feelings and reasons for diving into the wilds of California for some quiet.

Life is Noisy.

Life is noisy.  Whether you are a hitchhiker, whom is always meeting strangers and sleeping in other people’s homes, or you are a parent whom must provide for energetic youngsters.  Whether you are single and navigating the tricky world of dating in 2010 or you are married and you must continually be in step with your partner.  Whether you work 9 to 5 pm, 5 days a week or you run your own business and set your schedule.

Life is noisy.

“In quiet moments when you think about it, you recognize what is critically important in life and what isn’t.  Be wise and don’t let good things crowd out those that are essential.” – Elder Richard G. Scott

Much Learning.

I feel like I have learned so much in the past 7 months of traveling.  I have learned much about myself, much about others, and much about people in general.  But I also feel that sometimes I am going so fast, to the next destination, the next ride, the next friend, that I don’t have ample time to listen deeply to myself.  That I miss the reflection period where wisdom can be cultivated, because I am off to the next experience.

A Quiet Person.

I have a very high need for solitude and alone time.  I have worked and learned to be social to meet my needs to connect with other human beings. My alone needs are always in conflict with my other intense need to bond, share, and live intimately with others.  I wage a continual battle to keep my energy levels high between taking time to myself and diving into moments with others.

“Only in quiet waters do things mirror themselves undistorted.  Only in a quiet mind is adequate perception of the world.” – Hans Margolius

To Nature.

It has been a real challenge to get my alone needs met as I am continually surrounded by new people and a challenge that I feel great about growing myself with.  I feel deeply that is time for some quiet.  That there are some very real lessons about myself that are bubbling under the surface of my skin and will burst forth with some quiet time.

“I have lived through much and now I think I have found what is needed for happiness. A quiet, secluded life in the country with the possibility of being useful to people…” – Leo Tolstoy

Into the Wild.

At least once a week, when I describe how I am living, someone will, look thoughtful, then say, “What is that movie?”  They look towards the sky as they try to recall.  “You know, that guy whom went off to live in the woods?”  Of course I know the movie, because I get the comparison often.  The movie is Into the Wild.

“A quiet mind cureth all.” – Robert Burton

Although I share some similar philosophies with Alexander Supertramp, whom is the main character, we are much different and have much different missions.  But this next journey, into the wild, so to speak will be similar to his mission.  I will search for quietness and really hone into listening to myself with as little distractions as possible.  I am not sure how long it will last.  I believe it could be a couple weeks.

Create Our World will go on as usual.

I have posts coming about my extreme! friend Dave, running a lemonade stand, caving in the desert, staying at a mansion in Wine country, feeding wolves bison and chicken, and lots of photographic adventures with my new friend, Nicole.

“There is always music among the trees in the garden, but our hearts must be very quiet to hear it.” – Minnie Aumonier

I look forward to returning with new insights and fresh perspectives to share.

Please contact me, if you have any questions or just to say hello.  It will be a bit before I can get back to you, but I will.

Much Love.

Create Our World.

Ben
